Reclaimed

In a sidewalk bazaar I find an old book. It opens in one or two places, but the text makes little sense. I want to know more. This book contains stories, dreams, magic, love and secrets. Lots of secrets. The seller describes its history to me. He says that when it was new, the original owner picked it out carelessly and tried to understand what it meant, but in frustration threw it into a river. Someone who knew the value of this book pulled it out of the river and dried it in the sun. But the cover was damaged and the pages all stuck together. A selfish man came and promised to fix it and the book went with him ready to be opened and allow the stories and magic and love to be appreciated and enjoyed. The man was not able to peel the pages apart easily, so he tossed the book in the basement and threw trash and dirt on it… Burying it from the world. Somehow the book was found, but again it was in the hands of one who abused and neglected it. One day, the book was brought to one who saw its value. This was a project that would take time. Loosening each page…the story being revealed in pieces. Out of order… But the woman was patiently working with the book allowing time to undo the damage. This woman knew one day the book would be restored. Some of the pages were missing or beyond repair, but the story would make sense without them. The cover would have depressions, but the leather would again shine. The book would be kept away from those who do not understand or love it. Healing takes time.
